Case Studies

We help customers build safe, effective, and efficient systems. We pride ourselves on delivering the results our customers need in a wide variety of industries.

To see solutions we have developed and deployed for others in the past, take a look at some of our case studies. From standby gen-sets to marine power installations to combined heat and power applications, Solberg has worked with them all.

Crankcase Ventilation for Data Center: CAT C175-16

A power systems dealer required a quick turn around on a closed crankcase ventilation solution for over 40 Caterpillar C175-16 engines. This would bring the total number of closed crankcase ventilation systems required to over 80 in a very short amount of time. The new solution had to integrate into the existing generator set platform with minimal modification.

Sulfur Removal in Landfill Gas Stream

A landfill owner in the Southeastern United States needed to remove elemental sulfur from a large landfill gas stream. Along with capturing the sulfur, the elements would handle a large flow rate while maintaining a low differential pressure. The removal of the sulfur would help to protect a newly installed chiller. The gas would then be fed to a turbine to generate electrical power.

Wartsila 18V 20SG Natural Gas Engines

A peaking power plant in California has an install base of 8 Wartsila 18V 20SG natural gas engines. Their previous crankcase ventilation system was undersized. The result was visible emissions into the atmosphere, condensing oil on the side of their building and the ground, and excessive back pressure in the crankcase resulting in oil leaks through the engine seals.

Wartsila 20V 34SG Natural Gas Engines - Midwest

A power plant in the Midwestern United Sates had an install base of 9 Wartsila 20V 34SG natural gas engines. Their previous crankcase filters were static and simply acted as a rough baffle for the oily vented crankcase emissions. The result was visible emissions into the atmosphere and condensing oil on the side of their building and on the ground.

Wartsila 9L20 Diesel Marine Engines

A new super yacht being powered by one Wartsila 9L20 was being built in the Netherlands. Solberg was contacted to provide an oil mist eliminator to remove and recover the oil mist coming out of the crankcase.

Wartsila TM620 Diesel Engines

A power plant on the island of Kauai has an install base of 4 Wartsila TM620 diesel engines. Their previous crankcase filters were static and simply acted as a rough baffle for the oily vented crankcase emissions. The result was visible emissions into the atmosphere and condensing oil on the side of their building and on the ground.
